Megan McCallister

Looking for this summer’s hottest beauty trends? From head to toe, we’ve got you covered! Take a peak at what we think every fashionista needs to have in her make-up bag to make a statement this summer.

Bold Hues and Brilliant Blues

Nothing says hello summer like playing with color and this season is no exception! This summer’s standout shade is bright blue, available in rich shades and highly pigmented hues- this color is no longer just for mom! For a quick pick me up, apply a few strokes of eyeliner- Sephora Brand Retractable Eyeliner in Blue ($12 at my personal fav and will add a subtle pop to your everyday look. For more vibrant eyes, sweep a deep blue hue to the outer corners of the eye and brush on a light beige shade in the center of the eyelid. Contour the eye while adding depth with a blue-green shadow in your crease and along the brow bone. Experimenting with a burst of color will brighten your eyes and your mood, so don’t be afraid to pick up this season’s trend shade.

Remember, if you’re using bold colors on your eyes make sure to keep the rest of your look simple and fresh so your peepers will stand out!

The (Sunless) Bronze Goddess

It is no secret that sun exposure and tanning beds reek havoc on your skin and the long term effects are not worth the temporary glow. There is nothing sexy about wrinkles and sun spots! But fear not, looking like you’ve spent hours sun bathing while secretly staying under the umbrella is easier than ever with this  sun kissed palette. Sonia Kashuk’s How to Create the Bronzed Face palette ($20 at Target stores and contains Blush, Bronzer, 3 Lipglosses, and 3 Eyeshadows plus step-by step application tips to create a radiant face without breaking the bank.

For better application and to increase the life of this and other palettes, buy professional make-up brushes instead of using the mini applicators provided in the kit.

Luscious Lip Stains

Want a light and lasting lip color? This summer, it’s all about the lip stain! Easy to apply and able to stay on your lips for hours, lip stains go on as a liquid and quickly become dry to the touch, leaving behind a hint of tint. The travel friendly Cover Girl Outlast Lipstain come in 10 scrumptious shades and the felt tip marker make them easy to apply ($8 available at your local drugstores and at

TheBalm brings lipstains to the next level with their latest launch of the Lip Stains palette. The water color lipstain palette ($28 available in Raspberry Red/Petunia Pink and Brown Sugar/Plum Berry at allows you to create your very own custom lip stain color on the go. Each palette contains two complementary colors, a mini water bottle, water well to mix your shade, and a brush to apply.

Some lipstains also double as a long lasting blush, so apply to the apples of your cheeks and blend in with a sponge for a natural “I just jogged around the block” flush, without ever leaving your bathroom.
