I am Janette Maack and I am in my final semester of the BFA Fashion Merchandising program at Academy of Art University in San Francisco. I grew up in De Pere, Wisconsin and attended college at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis before ending up here in San Jose in 2006. In addition to studying fashion I enjoy just about anything creative in particular fashion illustration, designing jewelry, handbags, silk screening and ceramics.

Currently my favorite designers include Marc Jacobs and Marchesa. I cannot live without my favorite pair (ok, 6 pairs) of jeans. I am one of those people who buy shoes and never wear them. Fashion is a reflection of the spirit of the times; and whether we are aware of it or not the clothing we
wear expresses who we really are. Fashion is fun, but it is also emotional and sometimes serious. Fashion can be political, provocative, functional and can be utilized to stand out or to fit in.

I have always had a love of writing and a devotion to fashion, so combining these two subjects is a natural fit for me and I am excited to share my insights, inspirations, and illustrations with San Jose Fashion Week readers.
